Issues

A Common Sense Maryland gives a voice to mainstream Marylanders and advocates for common sense solutions that address the most challenging issues we face.

Economy

Our country was built on a free enterprise system which fosters economic growth and affords everyone with the opportunity to pursue the American dream.  Unfortunately in Annapolis, liberal policies are driving up the cost of doing business in the state and will destroy our economy.  Their out of touch, stale policies make it harder to create jobs and reduce economic opportunities for all Marylanders - hurting the very people they are elected to represent.  We must pursue a common sense approach to our economy based on fair, free and open markets that advances economic growth, competition, innovation and job creation.

Spending & Taxes

Spending & Taxes

We believe that lower taxes and less government spending is the backbone for the creation of a prosperous and thriving state for Marylanders, businesses and our communities.  Traditionally, Annapolis politicians have had a spending problem.  Liberal politicians continuously seek to increase taxes to fund more and more government pet projects that have resulted in wasteful spending with little to no benefit to Marylanders.   Today, Maryland has record budget surpluses resulting from the Hogan administration common sense approach to reducing government spending and cutting taxes.  It is paramount that our elected officials continue this common sense approach to government spending rather than reverting to their old ways.

Public Safety

Baltimore is one of the most dangerous cities in America.  Out of control crime and the lack of accountability has made people scared to go to work, attend school, and even stay in their own homes.  We demand better.  It is time for our elected officials to fight for the safety of our communities with policy solutions that protect our citizens and make our communities safer for Marylanders.

Environment

Environment

We have a responsibility to be good stewards of our land, air, and water. As our knowledge expands and innovation progresses, we must take what we know and apply it to ensure we improve our environment and quality of life for generations to come.  Too often however, extreme partisanship prioritizes ideology over common sense.  We must develop a balanced approach to environmental policies and encourage innovation without choosing winners and losers.

Education

Education

Every Marylander deserves a top notch education regardless of income level or where they happen to live in our state.  Education is our state’s single highest cost and we deserve far better than the outcomes we see.  Maryland school systems are some of the highest funded in the country.  Baltimore City is ranked #5 in the country in per pupil spending.  Yet, our students are falling further and further behind.  It’s time we identify common sense solutions to reverse our failing education system and give parents the resources they need so our students have the opportunity to succeed.
